Well...I am new at being a mom of a toddler, so sometimes when all is quiet I like to pretend that all is well too.
The other day, Luke's best friend, Talya, came over to play. Talya's mom and I were hanging out in the kitchen when we realized too much time had past without a peep. As I headed to Luke's room, I was expecting to find every book and toy on the floor, but instead, I found the room perfectly clean.
Well..almost perfectly clean, Luke and Talya had put every book, toy, and puzzle into the crib, and then somehow, they climbed into the crib too. It was so shocking it made us laugh.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and please notice how sweaty Luke is from all his hard work.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

We Are Family...I got all my sisters with me

I hope all my readers are old enough to know this Sister Sledge classic. The fruit of the womb is a reward."

What a true statement. It has been really fun to start to see the different personalities of Luke and Abel.
Luke has always been a little bit shy. All our friends laugh because Luke is notorious for greeting them with a scowl. He is quiet and mild tempered. He laughs and plays hard with the one's he loves. He is sweet and gentle.
And now there is Abel. Although too young to know for sure who he will be, he is a big smiler. He giggles in a newborn way. I just can't help but think he will be full of joy.
Thank you Lord for these two gifts.

My life today

So...I have not made a lot of time to blog lately since Abel has been born. It has been a little nutty since his arrival. I just thought I would recap some of the joys from yesterday.
1. Luke helped me clean. What this looks like is while I dust, Luke makes me pretend spray his rag with Pledge, and then he dusts right beside me. He is pretty cute. =)
2. Abel ate, slept, and pooped.
3. We had spaghetti last night, and when Luke was done with his plate, he stuffed the spaghetti in his high chair. Then Lee's garlic bread burnt during the whole process...of course.
4. Abel kept eating, sleeping ,and pooping.
5. Luke and I read Go Dog Go, The Wheels On The Bus, Children's Bible, First 100 Words, and I am sure others...he loves to read. This he did not get from his mother.
6. Abel stayed up to midnight while eating, sleeping, and pooping.

Cousins

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kHD2qcGK9X8/SpMFMRoV0WI/AAAAAAAAARc/lpW95RM_6A4/s320/adda+and+abel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373644488832307554" />
Introducing one of Abel's many cousins, Adda Elizabeth Gonzales. It is funny how I am always learning to eat a little humble pie. =)

Lee and I arrived at the hospital at 7am on Friday morning. We were admitted immediately, and I was put on pitocin within the hour. About an hour after that, they put in the epidural, and then the labor really began.

My doctor came in and broke my water. While doing that, she realized there was meconium in the fluid. Immediately, I could feel my heart drop. Our doctor advised us that he would have to go to NICU after birth just to be checked. As I was trying to guard my thoughts from going to the worse, and I began to pray. I prayed the Lord would not let any fluid get into his lungs.

As the labor progressed, I kept trying to change positions to get comfortable. Unfortunately, Abel was unable to keep his heart rate stable if I moved so I was told to remain in one position. Once again, I kept asking the Lord to protect him.

By 2:00pm that afternoon, I was 7 centimeters dilated, and all of sudden, my epidural began to fade. The thought of pushing out a baby without an epidural is a very scary thought to me, so I began to beg the nurse to increase my epidural. At first they didn't want to because they were afraid I wouldn't be able to push him out, but after a small nervous break down, I was given more.

Less than one hour later, Abel William Lewis was born at 2:51pm. He is a beautiful, healthy, big boy. Although this labor was a little more stressful than Luke's, it was well worth the work. He ended up not needing to go to NICU. I am so grateful to the Lord for his protection over Abel throughout this pregnancy and birth.

Abel William Lewis

Introducing Abel William Lewis. Last week at the 37 week appointment, I was measuring in at 1 & 1/2 centimeters dilated and 60% effaced. So, today I imagined how she would say that I was measuring 3 centimeters, and that we would need to induce this Friday. I had so much hope in this conversation that it was to my pure disappointment when she advised me that NOTHING HAD CHANGED. Well...that is not completely true, I had gained weight. =)
So....to make the story better, I called my mom to tell her that Abel doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and I am now regretting the prayers that I had made for him to come on his due date. She comforted me by letting me know that she still prays that for him daily. Are you kidding me? Two more weeks. I know two weeks isn't long in real time, but in pregnant time that is equivalent to four months. I'll keep you posted after next weeks appointment.

Update on Abel

Last Friday, we went in for our follow up appointment for Abel. The doctor told us that the dilated kidney had not changed at all. Although, we were praying for a miracle, this news was not completely bad. Without an increase in dilation, the likelihood that something is blocking that kidney from circulating the urine, is less likely. So....we really don't have any clear answers at this point.
On a side note, the Lord used a letter to really speak to me about where I am suppose to stand for Abel. I was given a letter by a woman who felt that the Lord wanted me to have it. The letter was about a story of a woman who had a child that had many complications, but through prayer and fasting, the Lord healed the baby. Now, I am not sure how it all works out, but I really do believe the Lord desires for me to pray and believe. So...that is what I am doing. We will know more after birth, but as for me, I will be praying and believing for a healthy baby boy.

Picture-32 weeks

This is a picture from my baby shower. About three weeks ago, I went in for a routine doctor's appointment where they just do a weigh in and measure my stomach. (Please note, I was only 30 1/2 weeks) To my joyful surprise, my stomach was measuring in at 36 weeks. (Yikes..I know)
In retrospect, I believe this was God's hand on Abel's life, because it is what got us in to do a sonogram. Nervous that the baby may be a 15 pounder, I was scheduled a sonogram for the following week.
The sonogram went well except for one small detail. Little Abel has one kidney that is dilated. This means for some reason urine is getting backed up into this kidney. Once they found this out, they sent us to a specialist where it was confirmed that this was true.
So...here we are, with a diagnosis that assumes that he may have to have surgery after birth, and at this point, there is very little chance that he could heal on his own prior to birth.
As the diagnosis was determined, I just felt in my heart that they did not include God. We go back on June 5th for another sonogram, and we will see then how Abel is doing. I am praying and believing for God to heal him. I don't know how it all works out, but I am trusting in God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I will keep you posted. I just wanted to give God the glory by posting the before.

Memories....

I have been trying to start writing down all the funny things Luke does so that I will remember them when he is older. I was so excited about my coupon that I didn't mind that everyone in the DFW area also had this coupon, and were all at the same Old Navy.

Anyways, there I am, checking out with one lady ahead of me and many behind, when I started to feel like I might be about to faint. Now, I am not a common fainter, but I was pretty sure that I would soon be hitting the ground. I started getting super hot, and I just knew that this was not normal over heating.

So...I get to the front of the line, and while the Old Navy worker is checking me out, I realize that if I don't act fast, I am going to hit the ground. So, I announce to him that I need to sit down, and I asked him if he had any water. Needless to say, I am being humbled at this point too.

The guy quickly advises me he'll go get me a water, but I'll need to give him $.75 cents. Of course, my life would be worth $.75 cents. Wanting to live more than I wanted to save a dollar, I gave him the money, and just sat on a bench while people watched the big pregnant lady.

Finally, the guy comes back, and let's me know that there is no water. I had to laugh that they were out of waters. I called Lee to see if he could come get me, but his phone was off. (And unfortunate for him, he would pay for it later)

To make my long story, short.....Praise Jesus...the fainting moment passed. So...I grabbed my 30% off new shirt and drove home. And I still plan to be a faithful shopper of Old Navy.

Luke is napping....

Mothering is one of those jobs that before you were there, you use to kindly say that it is a "full time" job, but you really didn't think so.....! Or at least maybe I didn't. I am sorry and I have repented. Mothering is a full time job! There is always something, and if it is not something that is happening that second, it is something that should be happening to help improve your child's welfare.
Do not get me wrong, I love Luke, and I am joyfully looking forward to Abel. And sickly, I want a big family. But that doesn't mean, I am not exhausted. That being said I wanted to share what the Lord has been showing me lately.

Galatians 5:1-It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." Amen! The Lord has been kindly showing me how worrying about other's opinions and worrying about all the details of life is an unnecessary yoke. That the Lord is easy and light. The Lord has been showing me recently just to be. He will take care of the rest. I just need to be in Him, and He will do the rest. Trust Him. How peaceful!

I am grateful for this quiet moment to blog, and give God all the glory for peace. He is truly the only life giving outlet for it.

And here are some pics. for the road!
1. Just for the record, Luke had a fever today, so I sent Lee to go ahead with our dinner plans, and I decided to stay here and lay on the couch.

Well..thus far the pregnancy has been good. I am a little over 17 weeks, and I am definitely starting to show. I have been trying to stuff myself into my jeans with a little help from rubber bands, but I think those days are numbered. =)

In regards to cravings, I really haven't had too many. I am going through a cookie phase which means I eat about 2-10 cookies every night. I am slightly nervous about my Feb. 10th weigh in, but I am pretending that I have a fast metabolism. =)

I guess my biggest pregnancy symptom has been exhaustion. I have a scheduled nap every day. I keep thinking I need to skip this part of my day, but I really love it.

Well...that is all the breaking news for now, I should have a sonogram picture after the 10th, so I will try to get it uploaded.

Think Blue.....!

This past Thursday I went to the doctor for a routine visit for Baby Lewis #2. I am only 15 weeks which means I am a few weeks away from actually getting the sonogram that predicts the sex of the baby.
Anyhow, I have the nicest doctor ever, and she decided that she would take a look and see if she could tell. Well...at this point, it looks like we are having another boy! YEAH!!
My official doctor's appt. is on Feb. 10th, so we will have the sex confirmed then, but I am pretty sure it is a boy! (When you see the picture, you will agree with the boy confirmation)
We are so excited about another little boy especially since Luke and his brother will be only 19 months apart. Thank you Lord for another precious boy!

LUKE.....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kHD2qcGK9X8/SU-kJABXQ-I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/vkcMviB6BBk/s400/IMG_9835.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282621362460378082" />

This is Luke's face when he heard the good news that he was going to be a big brother, and he would have to start sharing his toys.

December 20th 2008

December 20, 2008 marks the date of Lee's 30th birthday. We went to DeRidder, LA, my home town, this year for Thanksgiving. I love going home. It doesn't happen often enough. I come from a family of four siblings. When we are all in town, with all of our children, the house is very much full.
So...this year, we sat around the table and all discussed what we were grateful for.
Here are a few on my list.
1. Salvation: Walk with God: He is in control of all things!!
2. What a great year we have had with him. He is truly a gift from God. It is funny how much a child takes over your life in a good way! Thank you Lord for Luke.

On to his party, it was a blast! The night before the party, me and couple of friends (thank you Sonya and April) were busy making pumpkin bats for all the kids. I know....I am trying to become a crafty mom! After hours of cleaning and planning, the party kicked off on the following afternoon.

Luke was batman this year (thanks to Evan's generosity). He was such a hunk. Also, all of his little buddies came in costume. They were too cute! It was real fun. Here are some pics! It has been one of those weeks where Luke has made stories that I will not forget for the rest of my life.

It started on Monday where my sweet little boy was wanting some attention while I was working from home. Trying to help accommodate his need, I allowed him to sit behind me on the couch. I handed him my calculator, and I thought all was well. As I took a little glance back to check and see if he was ok (keep in mind, we are touching back to back), I noticed that he had a pen in his hands. YES...a pen!

In shock, I looked and saw that my yellow micro suede couch had about ten pen marks across it. It was a little depressing at first, but I am trying to convince myself that it adds flavor.

The next story was a little more scary than the first. Yesterday, Luke woke up with a low fever. Throughout the day, it became progressively worse. At 8:00pm Friday night, Luke had somewhere around 106-107 degrees of fever. Needless to say, we drove him up to the hospital. It was one of those times where you are heart broken with the what ifs, but comforted by the knowledge of God being in control of all things.

After a long evening of testing, which included giving blood, two shots in the thighs, an x-ray, and a catheter, Luke was diagnosed with pneumonia. It was a tough night, but we were grateful to have the thoughts and prayers of all our friends and family.

Here is a pic. of the "chicken" who made this week possible.

D-Town or Bust

This past weekend, the Lewis' family headed to my home town of "DeRidder, LA." We went to go visit my family and attend my sister-in-law's baby shower.
I come from a family of four, so when we are all in town, it is a little like My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It is always a little bit of insanity (FIVE grandchildren running around & one on the way), but I always really enjoy the time together.
One night while we were there, we all sat around and told the horrible stories of our junior high years.
So....I thought I would share mine....
In seventh grade, all the girls at school started pulling up their bangs while curling the bottom of their hair. Of course, I wanted this "do", but I come from a family of no hair talent. So...I went for it. I pulled back the bangs, and I scrunched my hair up the best I could without rollers. Unfortunately, I created a rat's nest.
Well...I thought I looked good, so I went to school, very proud of my hair style. As I strolled into one of my classes, one of my classmates asked me whether my hair-do was an accident or was on purpose. How mean? Needless to say, that was the last of my beautiful, puffy hair style.

More Updates

First of all, Luke has 86'ed (given up-for those who didn't wait tables) breastfeeding. I was not expecting the break up. So...there goes my eating two helpings of dinner along with two desserts. It has been a sweet time of bonding with Luke, and gluttony for me, but it is over.

Secondly, I have joined a running club. =) Not really, but I do have four women I get to run with. I make us refer to ourselves as a club just for the fun of it!

Thirdly, the Lewis/ Lagerstrom Home Group now exist. I am excited about us all doing life together. The Lord keeps showing me how to just trust Him more. type='text'>Mother's Day, In-Laws, and a Wedding

So...we had an eventful weekend. I had the in-laws in town, which means good food and Luke spoiling, both things I love!! Luke has become such a ham for attention, I think he may have gotten that from me! Maybe Lee too!

Next on the weekend was Mother's Day. This was my first, and I loved it! Luke is such a joy, and I am thankful to God for giving me such a precious, sweet spirited boy!

And lastly, one of my best friends, Gina Teague, got married. It was a beautiful wedding, and she was a gorgeous bride. I hope to put some of those pics. up soon!

So...here are some pictures of my little man!

Rice Cereal Today....Big Macs Tomorrow

So....I realize that I will have to one day blog about things happening in my life other than Luke, but for now, he is real fun to talk about. Yes...it is true, I have chopped off my hair. I love it!!! Since about the fourth grade, I have been carrying around long, not so healthy, brown (blond in college) hair. So...this past Saturday, I finally went for it, and cut off the locks. The stylist was the one and only Ashley Hill. She did such a great job, and I think I am addicted to the new do. I think next time I might go even shorter.

Easter Time

 The family

So......we just wrapped up our holiday weekend. We celebrated Jesus' with worship, family, and food. Being that it was Luke's first Easter, we wanted to make sure that he woke up to painted eggs and a filled basket of candy. (the candy is a perk of having a new born)

In regards to the eggs, Lee stayed up late to finish painting them all (he's nice). Painting eggs is one of those things that in the beginning you are real excited, but by the end, you regret you made so many eggs. At least, all Lee's work was recycled into delicious deviled eggs.

As I write this blog, it just makes me realize how good God is. This weekend was wonderful. I got to appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus. I was able to love on my family. I was able to dress Luke like a little man which I love to do. I was able to eat really good food. God is good. Happy Easter.

Tagged....

So.....I was tagged by Andrea Bowman. Here we go:

10 years ago: I was 18 yrs. old, and enjoying my freshman year at LSU. I think I was still a Landscape Architect major (that didn't work out), and I probably was making bad choices that I would later be discussing at Village Recovery. =)

My to-do list today: Go grocery shopping, buy a cute frame, cook dinner, force myself to read a book for local missions.

What would I do if I suddenly became a Billionaire? Give a lot of money to the church and other God glorifying organizations. Make everyone I love financially set. Travel, eat great food, hire Bob Green to be my workout buddy instead of Oprah's.

Three of my bad habits: 1. Not listening to voice mails on my phone. 2. Using the dryer to fold clothes. 3. I have a tendency to keep adding toe nail polish to my toes instead of starting over. (Uh....I like the layered look.)

Five jobs I have had:-1. Waitress at On The Border, Melting Pot, and Houston's. 2. Assistant Manager at Wells Fargo Financial (I swear it was in a different life) 3. Office Assistant at a Church Day Care. 4. Loan Officer at Nationstar 5. Admin. at The Village.

Five things people don't know about me:1. Lee and I moved here because of Hurricane Katrina. 2. I ran a marathon. (Maybe people know that one. I tell anyone who will listen) 3. I know only one verse of every song ever written. 4. Lee and I have rap off's while we travel on long trips. 5. I have a small addiction to America's Next Top Model.

Luke's First Flight

So....we just got back from Seattle, WA. Lee had a conference (Resurgence) to attend, and Luke and I came along for the ride. We were there this past Sunday through Weds.

Here is how our little trip went......

Sunday-We arrived in Seattle. We met up with the Hipps and the Elkins. We all were exhausted from the trip and traveling with babies. =) We headed to the hotel and enjoyed a family style Italian restaurant for dinner.

Monday- Lee and I went for Sushi in the afternoon, then he headed to the conference. Jenny, Katherine and I spent the rest of the day hanging out together. We had a lot of quality time at the Holiday Inn.

Tuesday-We finally got to go to Pike Place Fish

Market. It was a blast. We walked around

and checked out all the sights. We finished our day with dinner at The Athenian (where they shot a scene from Sleepless in Seattle).

Wednesday- Although this was the shortest day, it might of been my favorite. Lee and I got up and enjoyed a real chubby breakfast. We then went back to Pike Place Fish Market and walked slowly through all the shops again. We fell in love with a beautiful leather sectional. Unfortunately, our bank account did not. We had crab cakes for lunch at Etta's Seafood. We then headed to the airport, and we made it back home.
